Clawfoot House Farewell | Photo Essay

The Clawfoot House's now bare walls and overly spacious, unfurnished setting gave an unpredictable undertone as to how final-ever show at the Lincoln house venue would unfold. Two musical and visual artists, Bryan Klopping and friend Gregory Scott Cook (Omaha/Murray, Ken.), made up the new duo Double Double Z and started out the balmy evening Friday, Oct. 7.  They played a 20-minute consecutive set constructed of bass guitar, analog loop cassette tapes, ebow on a dulcimer and a software program Cook wrote. Their performance included heavy emotions of approaching change. It'll be interesting to see what these guys can orchestrate in the future.

Alexis Gideon (Portland) performs what I could best describe as trans-stylistic sonic language. Combining works of line drawing, charcoal, collage and claymation animation with recorded beats or diverse music styles and with live instruments, he produced "the ultimate adult cartoon." It was Gideon's third Clawfoot show, and, as was the case for everyone, it would be his last. His "eccentric – carnival" sounds boggle minds, providing a physical sedative and a mind-racing stimulant.

The Show is the Rainbow (Darren Keen) closed the night, fresh off a successfull five-week European tour. Excited to be back home, Keene drank up his "Pink Drink" and gave an ultimate house show performance, including his signature hair whips, quick steps, summersaults and spazztastic, heavy beat storytelling about supporting local artists. The guests of the last Clawfoot House show gave a huge round of applause to Gordon — who danced her last dance to Keen's set — for supporting Lincoln, statewide and national acts coming through the Midwest and helping to make Lincoln a clear music city.

Cheers to Klopping and Gordon for helping us experience creative, artistic and musical diversity these last couple years.
