In recent years, Lincoln has seen a string of substantial electronic artists pass through. Strongholds of the genre, Pretty Lights and Bassnectar, have toured through multiple times. GRiZ and Michal Menert looked to capitalize on that same strong reception Tuesday night at The Bourbon, where they began their Power in Numbers tour.

The two headlining artists seemed to draw people to the main stage with ease, as the floor crammed with fans for the last half of the opening act, Lincoln’s own Cake Eater. Without the aid of the towering LED displays (to be used later in the night), Cake Eater was tasked with alluring the main audience from the front bar and from smoke breaks with what he calls hard tropical bass and booty rave music.

Colorado producer Michal Menert was joined by a live percussionist, not unlike Pretty Lights’ latest shows, which was then incorporated into his mixing. Menert helped co-produce Pretty Lights’s debut album Taking Up Your Precious Time and the two artists have apparent auditory influences on one another. Vocal tracks are put to diverse drum beats with the harmonic addition of synths.

Vaporizer smoke and sweat filled the air by the time GRiZ took the stage. A black metal crowd barrier kept the horde of viewers at bay as he played. The Detroit native had the full support of the technical crew who flashed bright beams and white flashes in unison with his own original mixes. By the time the show wrapped around 1 a.m., the wild crowd had been transformed into an exhausted bunch.
