What do you get when you take half of Azure Ray and a slice of Of Montreal? Harouki Zombi, the new project from Orenda Fink (Azure Ray) and Nina Barnes (occasional Of Montreal member), is a carefully curated electro-dance party that is part DJ, part intense visual performance art. The duo has created a jungle-house, geisha-sporting, lively debaucherous set that unwound the crowd at the House of Loom recently, and is already getting national attention. Last week, Rolling Stone released Harouki Zombi’s new video.

 

“Harouki Zombi’s Swamp theme video explores the mercurial quality in the female psychology as it enters the world of dreams, violence and beauty,” Barnes says. “It is a statement of the empowerment of the female bond, but also how this bond is taken to a dark place, making the sirens scream instead of sing.”
