No Rain Check Needed, Just Players | Photo Essay

Just after 2 p.m., when a handful of musicians and friends met at Lewis Fields in Lincoln, the temperature threatened to break records. The April Fools' Day heat neared the 93-degree mark set in 2003, but according to the National Weather Service, ended up just shy of that at a still-unusually-high 88 degrees.

Perhaps it was the swelter that kept many potential softball players from coming on Sunday. Just shy of a full team showed up after all, and those who came were forced to hit, play catch and wait for another day to go nine innings. This was the second go-around for the "Lincoln is a Ballin' City 2012!" group arranged by James Michael Shannon Reilly, aka Velvet Devoe, of Pharmacy Spirits, and a few other bands represented on the ball field have included The SleepoverUUVVWWZ and Dirty Talker.

Here's hoping Nebraska's athletic musicians and company keep swinging for the fences, and we'll offer a friendly suggestion: Tim Kasher, how about you come play some organ?
