EARTH DAY: UUVVWWZ and Once A Pawn at the Rococo Theatre, in Lincoln; free; 6 p.m.
This event to celebrate Earth Day features an eco-art show, Ignite Lincoln and a sustainable fashion show, as well as performances from Lincoln staples Once A Pawn (pop-punk-political rock) and UUVVWWZ (Saddle Creek art-rockers). Great music for free — it doesn’t get more wallet-“sustainable” than that.

Lights will not change your life, but goddammit, she’s fun. Some of the tracks on her debut album don’t veer too far from the electro-pop beaten path, but standouts like “Siberia,” “Banner” and “Flux and Flow” make it worth it, and I love how she incorporates elements of dubstep without alienating those who maybe can’t handle the full-on genre. Think Ellie Goulding’s lyrical sensibilities and voice with a dash of the Knife and Skrillex.

And there will be dancing.
As Omahype describes them, Harouki Zombi is “zombie-geisha-VJ-DJ-performance-art duo madness,” featuring Azure Ray’s Orenda Fink and Of Montreal’s Nina Barnes. You can read my review of their SXSW performance here. The cultural appropriation of the geisha theme makes me a bit uncomfortable, but the overall aesthetic and sheer volume of Harouki Zombi’s sensory explosion is unforgettable.

Love Drunk Studio and Duffy’s Tavern presents *Arrah and the Ferns, Classes, Millions of Boys and Flashbulb Fires
Love Drunk Studio kicks off its second free-music-video tour with a benefit show led by Philly band Arrah and the Ferns, with their blend of alt-country and pop-punk: spunky, a little brash, a little sweet and thoroughly enjoyable. They join Lincoln band Classes (featuring Jordan Ellis of the Betties) and Omaha band Milions of Boys (honest, uncluttered, melodic punk-rock).

Heather Sticka: Heather Syren
Heather Sticka of Lincoln band Tsumi not only plays and writes music, but paints (with glue!) and writes haikus, too. Check out her recent project, The Dirty Haiku Project, and find more on her Facebook page. She also has a website — heathersyren.com — but said it hasn’t been updated for a while.
Inspired by HN Managing Editor Michael’s Todd’s recent article postscript, Hilary Stohs-Krause thought back to her first live concert — and she’s pretty sure it was Third Eye Blind.
