Talking Mountain Interview and Live Song | Video Double Feature

As Jason Meyer has grown older, the six or so album release shows he has helped orchestrate have grown, too.

He's been in bands since he was 17 or 18, during the days of cassette tapes in the late '90s, when musicians would dub the tapes and print j-cards. As CD burning became less expensive, Meyer adopted that medium. Now, at 33, Meyer released his latest Talking Mountain album, Mysterious Knowledge/Unknown Colors, as a package with a CD-R presented as a 7-inch record might be. It comes with full-color artwork on heavy paper stock, a fold-out pamphlet, a series of photos and "a one-of-a-kind mystical wooden object, The Ominoptra."

As was also evident from the time spent decorating Slowdown for the album release concert  — including setting up the balloon drop — there is one constant throughout Meyer's album release shows. He continues to be not a perfectionist, but a "really good-ist."

Meyer works at Urban Outfitters, where he builds the Omaha store's sculptural art installations. For side projects, he builds more, such as parts of the Saddle Creek Shop. It was his relationship with both Urban Outfitters and Saddle Creek that helped facillitate the free album release show sponsored by UO at Slowdown on March 27.

Learn more about Meyer's background in music, what made the concert less stressful than the ones previous and why he's already writing the next album's worth of songs in the video interview below. Then watch a video of "Realistic Feel" from the concert itself.
